FEC

What is FEC?

FEC consists of three chemotherapy drugs:

  • 5-Fluorouracil ("5FU")
  • Epirubicin
  • Cyclophosphamide

It is a standard chemotherapy regime used in adjuvant chemotherapy of early breast cancer, particularly in Western Europe, where it is more popular than the "FAC" regime used more commonly in the USA. Like FAC, it is given as an injection into the vein through a running drip once every three weeks, usually for 6 cycles.

Side-effects of FEC

FEC is almost identical to FAC and AC in its side-effects, except that the risk of low white blood cells and consequent infection is a little higher than that seen with AC. A full description can be found HERE
